Defeat Trump’s Power Grab!

BY GREG OLMSTED – On May 1, 2025, the Editorial Board of The New York Times wrote “There is a way forward: how to defeat Trump’s power grab.” Read their editorial here. ‘We the People’ can stop Trump’s power grab. Join us!

Today the Wall Street Journal published their investigation of Trump’s illegal deportation of Carlos Uzcategui to a notorious El Salvador concentration camp. See WSJ video here. Also today, a judge in Texas (appointed by Trump) ruled that his use of the wartime act for deportations is illegal (NYT here). Trump and his accomplices deportation of Mr. Uzcatequi was ILLEGAL. And cruel.

How many other innocent people have been illegally deported to concentration camps in El Salvador by Trump and his accomplices without due process? Will Trump start ‘disappearing’ U.S. citizens, too?

100s of protests were held today (NYT here and WP here.) The protests include lawyers who turned out in suits and ties to protest Trump’s attacks on the legal system (NYT here). See my photos of D.C. protesters here.

BY GREG OLMSTED – On April 19, 2025, a second wave of protests against President Donald Trump swept across the United States. “Marches in Midtown Manhattan filled 15 blocks on Madison Avenue.” (The New York Times here) “From Wyoming to Washington and Mississippi to Manhattan, protesters at hundreds of rallies in small towns and big cities gathered Saturday to denounce President Donald Trump’s sweeping policy moves, the second day of mass action this month as opposition to the administration continued to coalesce.” (Washington Post here). See the protest in New York City here.

HANDS OFF! DEMOCRACY

By GREG OLMSTED – On April 5, 2025, hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered across the country to send a message to the world that “we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies.” (quote from INDIVISIBLE). Americans at the Washington Monument, National Mall, Washington, D.C. sent a clear message to Trump, Musk and the GOP that we are building an “opposition movement against the looting of our country.” Join us at INDIVISIBLE. Enjoy posters from the rally here.

THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE

‘Fascist Scum,’ George Floyd protest, Black Lives Matter Plaza, DC, November 14, 2020.

By GREG OLMSTED – On March 18, 2025, ‘Chief Justice Roberts criticizes Trump’s call to impeach judges’ (WSJ here). The next day a headline in a major U.S. paper reads ‘Trump has gone from unconstitutional to anti-constitutional’ (NYT) and a major French newspaper says ‘Trump has already surpassed his Hungarian and Polish role models’ (LeMonde). In fact, a French politician had this to say about Trump and the U.S.: (CNN here).

Fascism is ‘A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent government controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism’ (Heritage dictionary). Sound familiar? Trump is a fascist. The GOP is his party.

STOP TRUMP’S COUP!

By GREG OLMSTED – On February 4, 2025, lawmakers, watchdog groups, and patriots gathered in front of the Treasury Building in DC to protest Elon Musk’s access to taxpayers funds: the biggest privacy and security breach in American history. Elon Musk and Trump have seized control of the U.S. Treasury payments system. This is the first protest of many! Hear Rep. Jamie Raskin’s emotional response here.

Chevron sells Hawaii Crude Oil Refinery

By GREG OLMSTED – After a six-year effort Chevron finally sold their refinery on Oahu. It was probably a fire sale – you may remember that Tesoro sold their Hawaii refinery in 2013 for only $75 million cash and it was almost twice as large.   Chevron started hemorrhaging last year (lost more than a half billion dollars in one quarter) and is furiously selling assets. Word in the industry is that they are slashing spending by 40 percent for each of the next two years. Ouch! Long story short: according to the Star-Advertiser, Island Energy Services LLC, a subsidiary of One Rock Capital Partners of New York, now owns a 58,000 barrels per day refinery, 58 gasoline stations (to be rebranded as Texaco, really?), and four fossil fuel distribution terminals (one on each main island) in Hawaii. That’s right, HAWAII.

Transporting crude to Hawaii for refining is a disaster waiting to happen. Read the first four chapters of my book Under Threat, A Strong Current Trilogy Book 3.  Under Threat describes the dramatic effect of a catastrophic oil spill when a supertanker breaks it’s back off the coast of Waikiki after colliding with a longliner fishing vessel.

Before the sale, Chevron had promoted a future utility-scale solar photovoltaic project on Oahu that would produce 1 megawatt, displacing 10,000 barrels of oil per year. Will Island Energy Services continue that project? Any hope for the solar thermal demonstration project that Chevron had considered for the refinery?
